Hi

My young fresian is doing really well but he does have a high head carriage and sometimes opens his mouth. He has a french link snaffle in at the moment, I am not a gaget person and I dont know a great deal about the bit action of the array of bits in the tack shop. I dont want to use a flash and I know its down to schooling which we do a couple of times a week but we are happy hackers really and I just would like to see him going well schooling wise as he does need more top line. He is only five and I know you should not try short cut the schooling but I would like a bit of help, any advice thankyou.

I would say you could try a sprenger/Neue Schule as they really seem to like this type of metal- A flash would solve the opening of mouth problem however he may be happier in a simple cavesson- its trial and error I suppose. Schooling to get him working over his back and his hocks engaged will definately help to soften him thru the neck- in time he should come rounder.

You could also try a french link hanging cheek snaffle.
have you had his teeth checked?... if you would like- pm me and I will give you the phone number of a lady that is really helpful that runs a bit company
