My horse tends to come above the bit on the flat but I have had success with lots more suppling exercises and a single joint eggbutt snaffle. She tries to seek the contact now and this is seeing the beginning of some proper work.

However, when jumping I need something more for better brakes. I just had no reaction to a half halt and my instructor recommended a universal gag with a french link mouthpiece. Even though my horse hates a french link. She said NOT to use a single joint gag as it will be too severe and will cause her to refuse.

I am trialling a Novocontact single joint eggbutt but there is no corresponding universal gag with the same mouthpiece. Any recommendations??

Thank you!

My horse doesn't like a double joint either. I am using a bog standard single joint universal and she is much happier than in NS double jointed version. Can you borrow any and try them? There isn't a novocontact gag but there are other sprenger single joint gags that might be worth a look.
