I was riding Blade in a plain french link but found him very strong when we were out hacking and jumping so i put him in a kk french link. He was 100% better out hacking but I have to have VERY still hands or he throws his head up in my face. I schooled him for jumping in it on sunday and he was great but again i found that when he tried to get a bit of a run on me away from a jump he threw his head in the air.

Would you persevere and see if he relaxes with the bit or change him and if so what too?? he's quite strong anyway and i have limited use in my left arm so i dont want to over bit him early on and cause problems later, what do you think???

he's already got one on, he throws his head up that fast that it doesnt have a lot of effect even though its tight enough, he's very short in front, no idea if thats why he can do it??

I may be voicing what you've already done, but you probably have had a good dentist out to him have you?

If he's good in the mouth, then maybe longe him in the chosen bit with side reins and when he tries to stick his head up he'll have a job and you get after him. Then when you're on, -be like side reins- easier said than done, for sure.

Try to "block" the fling of the head, and really don't relinquish any hold during his head toss, and give him a big kick at the same time. Having said that, don't pull back at all with the hand, or they can rear, just don't give.

Thank you very much, I'll give that a try and hopefully have some joy
