Hi guys,
I bought my horse 2 months ago and she has now had her full MOT; dentist, back, saddle etc so we are ready to go! Although, I am having a problem with bitting her. The dentist said that she has a very large fleshy tounge and mouth; her cheeks are also very thick (Typical warmblood!) The channel for her tounge is also slightly narrower for the size of her tounge; so her tounge lays the slightest bit higher than usual but nothing to worry about! I have been riding her in a NS verbindend snaffle but she really isn't keen on it, she opens her mouth a lot; even with a slight contact. She is only 6, so I want to get her a full cheek one to help with her schooling. When I shows the EDT her NS bit, she said that it wasn't a good shape for her and she needed a more straighter, thinner mouthpiece. What would you guys suggest? Must be dressage legal! Thank you x

A myler would be my choice if what she is in at the moment doesn't suit her mouth, I wouldn't get hung up on something with full cheeks as it only really helps with schooling if the horse prefers a more still bit, they certainly have little effect on steering unless the stability suits the horse, in my experience most horses prefer some movement from a loose ring that allows some tongue relief or if they like something still an eggbutt or D ring can be just as effective.
