Bitting advice.

Hi All,

Currently riding my TB in a sweet iron loose ring, lozenger snaffle. Which he seems to go well in for school/day to day. He was a big head shaker when I first got him & also snatched the reins.

Im looking at getting a stronger bit for outings, but nothing too harsh because he’s soft mouthed. But does need something more than a snaffle.

When he get excited/worked up when we go out (fun rides etc) he snatches the reins & also rides behind the bit.
I’d love to get a bit specialist out but still looking for someone who covers my area.

I would work on him accepting his bit rather than changing it. Often upping the anti can cause more trouble than it is worth

A bit fit specialist is definitely worth it - I paid £65 for a consultation and the difference the new bit (and bridle) made was instant. I had already tried 3 bits and spent far more than she cost me in trying them. Where are you based? Maybe someone here can recommend someone who covers your area?

I’m based in Worcestershire. I’d much rather get a specialist, his bridle & saddle are perfect, could just use someone with knowledge regarding bitting!

He is happy with his current bit & it’s fine for schooling or hacking, but I need something stronger for outings.

Try Lynne Beattie. She's based in Pembrokeshire but covers South Wales and South West England. I know she goes to Cheltenham as she was heading there after my appointment with her so if you're not too much further north than that she might cover your area.
