Can anyone recommend an expert who can help me find a comfortable bit for my young horse. He has a habit of sticking his tongue out of the side of his mouth. I've had his teeth looked and there's nothing obvious to see. Tried lots of different bits but not managed to find a solution. He's young so not ridden in much of a contact yet. Judge penalised us in our first dressage test for tongue sticking out! But it's more about getting him comfortable, assuming it is a discomfort issue.

Definitley try and get someone out but I would also try these guys, they are great....they recommended something for our fussy mouthed horse which was great! He's happier now with the bit : https://expertbits.co.uk/

They will come out if you are reasonably local or they can give advice via email.

I hope you manage to find one in Hampshire as I wouldn’t mind one coming out too. I think there is one on nfed.co.uk but if i remember correctly she promotes a particular make, which I wasn’t too keen on (not the make just the idea of pushing a certain brand)

Have you looked at bridles as well does it fit properly. Do you have any photos. What feedback did the judges give.

Thanks for this. I'll give them a ring and have a chat.

He's in a micklem bridle at the moment, but I have tried two others: a PS of Sweden and an ordinary hunter bridle. He gets quite stressed if you do the micklem noseband up tighter to stop his tongue dropping out - only done it the once but it was not the solution. As for the test feedback, it was his first time out and first time on his own in an indoor arena so "needs to relax" was the feedback. That will come with time. He got 7s for trot work and 5s for walk as he jogged. We ended up with 60.

When I was in Surrey/Hampshire border I used Celina Harrison. She is on Facebook. She also checked the bridle fit.
