I mentioned on another thread that I had a bitting consultation today that I was looking forward to.
Bean has always been tricky in the contact. She either ducks behind, or can become quite brittle, which isn’t pleasant and difficult to deal with. I also have less than perfect hands which I am working on, but ultimately I knew the bit wasn’t correct.
I had a bit fit consultant out a few years ago, and while they helped me at the time, I think now that the level of the work has increased, and we have both developed a bit, I needed something extra. I chose not to opt for a bit fit consultant again, purely out of curiosity to go elsewhere.
I had Emma from Beresford Bitting out, I hadn’t really heard much about her previously so it was a bit of a shot in the dark.
She deals predominantly in NS bits however she does hold a lot of others. She had a good thorough poke about in beans mouth, and we established that the bit we have been using was about half an inch too big 😱 - slap the owner for not picking up on this!
We tried a couple of different bits, and ended up settling on the NS turtle top in a small. The work I got out of her in that bit was lovely, the lateral work (while not perfect) was definitely better, much more free and loose. I did nearly choke when I found out the cost of a new one 🤦â€â™€ï¸ So I’m now off to sell all of my other randomly assorted bits to drum up some funds for the new one. I’ve had a look on fb and eBay but haven’t found one second hand yet, any recommendations for other 2nd hand websites to try?
Failing that, I’m sure I can flog a kidney on the black market - you only really need one, right??
For anyone who is in 2 minds whether to have a bitting consultation, I would say go for it. Yes, it’s not the cheapest, but if you are having any kind of contact issues (and are a bit of a bitting numpty like me), it’s worth doing.
