Hi

Iam going to show my boy at a local county show in around 2 months!!!!! Argh

Anyway want to get him into a pelham with double reins and look posh and all that!!! lol...
But am not sure on the best mouth iece to go for for a first pelham? I thought about a mullen mouthpiece as these as supposed to be gentle etc, or one with a low port?
Any advice appreciated, currently I ride him in a french link fulmer as he is a wobbly babby.

He is not strong in any way and we are not really seeking the contact yet - but that is becasue we are still working on connecting the backend and engaging forward movement:(actually to get his brain thinking forward!)

Hope any one can offer soem advice- I also dont like the clunkiness of rugby pelhams - what is the advantages of that over a normal pelham?

Sorry for long post and multiple questions?

thanks

If you're going to show in a pelham then a rugby is correct as it most closely resembles the double.

However, if he's not yet going forward then a pelham may be counter productive.

Mouthpiece wise, depends on which your boy likes best - if he's got a big tongue then he may appreciate the ported version more.

Go for a fernch link pelham if he is still not seking the contact and is keping with what you already use. Just keep a light hold on the curb rein and don't use it unless you have to.
