Hi guys :)

I'm considering trying a different bit for my pony. He's a cob and we are currently working at Elementary, verging on medium.

He is really starting to come up infront (in a good way!) however honestly I still don't think he is 100% happy in his mouth. (Teeth back etc. all up to date) To give you a bit more info he can lean on the left rein in particular.

He is currently in a Neue Schule Team Up bit. I am considering trying him in an ordinary single jointed snaffle to give him less to play with or different metal like the Sprenger bits. Possibly the Turnado? I'm also going to hire first at those prices!

He has a sensitive mouth so I feel i should spend a bit more to make him comfy!

Any advice would be brill :D

I found that when my mare became more established she started to value the bit being more still in her mouth. She got on well with a NS verbindnent loose ring (a tendency to lean and be heavy infront at first got me using the loose ring version). Now she is over that we are on a NS eggbut and I'm thinking of swapping the caversson to a softy fitted drop to keep things nice and steady in her mouth so she can concentrate on the aids. Wonder if something like that might suit your cob? Cobs tend to have pretty fleshy mouths so you might find a single joint doesn't suit him because it will wind up squashing his tongue and bars more than a shaped french link. I did try a few sprengers with my mare (thank god for bit banks!), but they didn't suit her at all - her tongue is very sensitive so the angle of the lozenge was really important.

Do you not have an instructor who could advise? They would be in a better position having seen the horse (who by the way I adore, love your videos :D).

Thanks both of you!

After a bit of umming and ahhing I have selected a few to hire.

And thanks rhino! I sadly think I have found my horse/pony of a lifetime at 17!

Best wishes :) x
