I am trying to get a new bit - my horse has gone a little strong and although my pelham works - in company he ignores me, is very strong and just leans on it. Am currently trying a Waterford - but it is only 6" and need a bigger one - I am told they need to be bigger than you would normally buy but can't find a stockist?

Hiya

We struggled to find a big bit and were told my several stockists that the only option would be to get one made as very few people make them so big anymore.

You tried anywhere like ebay?

I understand where you are coming from with this!! my cob takes 6 1/4 or 6 1/2 with bit rubbers. Neue shule (cant remember spelling) go to big sizes, the 3 large bits ive managed to get are a 3 ring gag, a neue shule tranz lozenge hanging cheek snaffle and a NS cartwheel with cherry rollers. Its a nightmare!! Ive never come accross a waterford so if you do point me in the right direction eh?

ridingbitz.com, part of Abbey saddlery, hand make almost any bit to any size and reasonable prices.

Hi,
Neu Shule made me a 7.5 and an 8 ins bit and Myler made me a 7 and 3/4 ins. The service from both companies was very good. Abbey bits as pointed out also do a made to measure service. It may be worth asking at your local tackshop as mine knew of this service and would have ordered for me.
