Well, Katie has been with us for a week now and she has had it pretty easy so I thought it was about time we started doing something other than eating. As we are still waiting for her new saddle and she is really unfit I thought I'd take her for a nice walk down the lane (really quiet road). As soon as we got out the gate she started jogging and snorting and I felt like I was leading a 18hh stallion, not a 14.3hh cob! I kept a light rug on her and took her out in a bridle with a french link snaffle.
We got about 20m down the road and she was so mental that I had to take her home. She has been a dream all week and she has totally taken me by surprise. We don't have a sandschool at the yard and there is nowhere in the field that I can do anything. There is a school about 1/2 a mile away but we have to walk along the road to get there!!
So, what do I do now? I don't want to stop doing anything with her and she desperatly needs the exercise, what can I walk her out in that can give me that little bit extra control, I'm sure she just needs practise but at the same time, I need to be safe doing it!! I don't think taking her out ina headcollar will be any good but I'm scared of hurting her mouth if she's in a bit.
Blimey, don't you just love a fiesty mare!!!
