Recently got Ty a miniature shetland. He came with a bridle and the owners stated he had been shown before in it. I put in on him today with the hope of starting some work with him to loose some of his weight but it was clear he really does not appreciate the bit!!! He just constantly opens his mouth. Having seen how he was with it it is clear he really hasnt got used to the bit or really had anytime spent on him with it. Think i should just start as if he has never had one in but really dont know how to start!! Any ideas on how i should go about getting him used to having a bit again???

Thanks

try rubbing something tasty around the bit so that when its in his mouth it becomes a pleasure and a treat to have in like molasses etc or maybe he doesnt like the metal on the bit perhaps you could try a rubber bit if you havnt already ?

some training bits well ones we used years ago had the little dangley bits in the middle for them to play with on thier tongue, bit like teething rings if you know what i mean !!!
i think youl just have to persivere (sp) he will soon get use to it,i think you should try something tasty on it he mite like it and will take his mind off the bit !!!
