Do you think i will look silly? I will be on a 14.1 jumping Senoirs? How many small horses/large ponies jump in senoirs or are they all 16hand plus jobs?

Also what sort of hieght are the classes? I have been told that sometimes the jumps are biult bigger at county shows than 'normal' ones?

No offence intended, but *whispers* it's BSJA, not BJSA!

I thought seniors had to ride a 14.2hh minimum? Im sure you've looked into it though so it must be right!

There aren't many ponies in seniors to be honest. But you'll get lots of 15.2hh's etc. not just all over 16hh jobs.

Height of the classes will be in your rule book when you get it. The usual classes - British Novice I think is 90cm, Discovery 1m, Newcomers 1.10m, Foxhunter 1.20m. You'll also get qualifiers and the odd speed class etc.

I think height-wise, courses tend to be a bit more up to height at county shows as usually you have to qualify for county shows (least you do in my area). So if its the "final" of a class then it will usually be more up to height / technical etc. I find they usually built classes more up to height if there is a huge entry as well, I guess to keep the jump off numbers reasonable.

Have fun, you'll probably kick the seniors butts since a pony can be much quicker in jump offs!

You will be fine. I had a 14.3 that got to grade B and we won everything as he was easier to turn. The only problem you might have is summer shows if the course is on grass and at newcomer level etc they tend to build uprights in and spreads out in doubles which is sometimes a stretch for the little horses but you will be fine,. Good luck

You'll be fine

BN - 0.90m *
Disco - 1.00m *
New - 1.10m *
Fox - 1.20m *

* first round

Although I've heard from course builders that they can build over-height by 5cm - is that right?

There's lots of Opens (0.90m + I think) and Amateur Q's

Harry will be fine - he's wicked!!

You'll totally be fine, pony classes aren't that much smaller anyway. Only prob you might have is if your pony can make the distance in doubles etc.

I think you'll be supprised what BSJA is like - you get all shapes, sizes of horse and types of people so you won't look silly. As far as I know, they can't build above height so a BN will never be more than 90cm etc. although they seem to wack them up a bit if there are a lot in the class for a JO.

Good luck! Let us know how you get on.

PMSL!

No, they *shouldn't* build over height...but depending on where you go, they often do

I was at Pyecombe last week jumping a 1.15m, where the last double was 1.20m.....How do i know ? Because they use Jump4Joy wings with the height printed on the wing

A slight oversight on the part of the coursebuilder (who happens to be the same person who built a 1.20m Am 2d Round at nearer 1.30m

In my area, they don't seem to build OVER by 5cm, but I meant they tend to build more of the course up to height (you know, like they only have to have a minimum % of the course full up height).

Although saying that, I swear the odd class Ive done has been way bigger than usual! I dont think its right they are allowed to build over by 5cm. What the hells the point in saying what the class heights are if they are then over?! If I entered a 1.15m, I do not expect to jump a 1.20m! Otherwise, Id simply have entered the 1.20 in the first place. Stupid allowance IMO!

They get away with building a bit bigger as some schedules say 'Aprox height' for classes. To be honest, I don't see it happen that often and when it has it has generally been at a larger venue and in a class with a strong field. At the end of the day it's only usually a hole over, and when you're jumping on a good surface you 'gain' a few cms advantage anyway
