Ulla can't resist a toad! There are lots of them about at this time of year and she picks them up despite the fact that they make her foam at the mouth and smack her lips for about half an hour afterwards. The other dogs have learnt to leave them alone.
Could they do her any harm?

I think the toads secrete a liquid that causes the animal to foam at the mouth and therefore drop the toad. I'm not sure if its poisonous or not, perhaps try to keep her away from them just in case.

She seems to rather enjoy it, actually

She's 2 now... she might be stuck in her ways?

My young dog does this too. She loves to wander down to the pond in the summer and bring back loads of toads - particularly the huge big fat ones who then try to climb into the house once it gets dark.

Daisy really enjoys playing with them but they don't make her foam at the mouth so I guess ours are different to yours? Her favourite thing of all though, is to go round the fields after we have cut the hay and brings home the dead snakes. They are so much fun for her

Bleaauuurgh!! Some of the toads are sooo huge they're quite gross; the little ones i don't mind picking up, but the big ones get chucked over the fence with a shovel!! when you pick them up they wee copiously which I suspect is what makes Ulla foam at the mouth. Perhaps your toads are just harder/meaner toads who can take more abuse?
