Just got home from the farrier and noticed a tiny sarcoid developing on Hannahs lip right where the bit sits. Now so far it's not bothering her and may be a few years before it grows but if I'm honest its unlikey. It sadly means her clock is now ticking as once it effects her ridden work I will have to seriously consider having her PTS

. Thos of you who know me will know Hannah is a worst case scenario and has been treated twice by Liverpool and by numerous alternative/homeapathy remedies over the years, but they still keep developing.

I'm not sure I hacve the heart to point it out to her loaners but I'm sure it won't be long before they notice.

I'm trying to put a brave face on it, but this is my mare I've owned since 10 months and who has bred the fantastic Herbie for me, and it's going to be very hard watching this new sarcoid slowly develop.

Thanks guys, I was gutted when I noticed, now it may not amount to anything, but that is really just wishful thinking given her history.

My horse had a scarcoid where her bit goes and the vet treated it with the normal stuff and it wouldnt go - but then used a much stronger something (arsnic powder???) which i dont think was totally legal! and they went - i couldnt ride her for a month but she is fine now. She had the one by her bit and one huge one under her belly.

That would be the liverpool cream, sadly my mare has loads of them all over these days, and has had many treatments over the years, nne with any real success

Oh what a bummer

could she be ridden in a hackamore if you wanted to not treat the sarcoid? sorry I don't know all her history

Sadly not, she used to go very well in one, but has in the last 2 years developed a nasty one around the chin area which means she can only wear loose fitting nose bands.

No point treating the sarcoid unless a new cure is developed. Also they are so widespread now I think only something taken internally would have any chance of working.

Global herbs have a product that is supposed to help the body deal with them... but maybe you have tried that already? The vet on the vet-line is very helpful, maybe worth giving them a call.
I asked a questions about sarcoids on the EGB forum a while back and loads of people had treated successfully with Camrosa...

Good Luck

Oh Dear. I recently found out about a horse for sale that had sarcoids (decided against buying it because of them). The sellers are very reputable and were totally upfront about the sarcoids. They said that the Liverpool cream had caused the sarcoids to flare up, so they are now using homeopathic drops and cream made up for the horse by Crossgates Bio Energetics.
You have probably tried every thing - but thought it would be worth a mention. good luck.

What about the bridle designed for headshakers? It is a sort of wrap around bridle, with no bit, I was thinking of getting one for my headshaker but not got around to it.

It may be the same pressure points as a hackamore, I can't quite remember, but if it does sit in a different place it might work? Worth a look on a website? Will try to find link...
