Sharer for my cob has been coming about 4 weeks, she told me she is just looking for a horse to have fun on eg hacking, a little bit of schooling etc. That was fine, I showed her round, saw her ride a couple of times (she has owned horses in the past so quite capable).

It turns out (from a friend that knows her) that she has land/stables at her house and is currently looking for a pony (for her kids) and a horse (for herself) to buy and keep at home.

She sent me an e-mail last night to say that she won't be coming anymore as she has found one to buy.

I have turned a lovely lady down because I had this sharer, have been in contacted and she has found something else where now.

So I am back to square one!

Why on earth would you share a horse when you are looking to buy your own? Not only waste my time but my poor horse's?!

I must say, I did send quite a harsh reply back as I was not happy!

I wouldn't be happy either - but I'm finding I have less and less patience with the girls that ride my pony. They want to turn up when they feel like and not when its raining.

When you want the best for your horse etc its sooo fustrating other people aren't the same. If she'd be up front with you fair enough but to drop you in with not notice is damn right rude

*ahem* not all of us! Committed ones do exist you know, I've shared F for 2 1/2 years now, I'm certainly not a fair weather rider (much to his disgust sometimes) and I always put his needs before mine - much to the detriment of my social life and dispair of my friends because inevitably I always run late to meet them becuase I've been seeing to the horse first!!

I agree with you, I would be unhappy as well. Although the sharer doesn't have as many responsibilities as the owner, knowing that you are really looking for your own horse and using the shared horse for a few rides is waste of everyone's time. She should have gone to a riding school for lessons instead, or been honest with you.

Well - the sharer has done nothing wrong really - thats just how it goes - at least she bothered to tell you she was giving up - a pain yes - but she has done nothing wrong - people share and loan so they dont have any ties -

You will get one again I'm sure

So we are out there, sorry she let you down, and can see how you are a bit peeved, but technically shes done nothing wrong, it just didnt last as long as you had hoped!

Well, I can see both sides of this.

I defence of her: I'm currently horse-hunting and have been now for two months, and it's begun to dawn on me that it is going to take me the rest of my days to find what I want. If I had nothing to ride in the meantime then I'd consider sharing, and knowing my luck, two days after committing myself to sharing someone else's horse, something perfect would appear on the market, pass vetting and end up with my deposit on it. In that case I'd think it only right to back out of sharing as quickly as possible.

In defence of you: I do think it would have been fairer of her to tell you that she was horse-hunting and that she might have to give up sharing at a moment's notice. This way it wouldn't have come as such a sudden surprise, or you might have chosen a different sharer. I guess the thing is to ask in future, "How long do you ideally plan on sharing horsey for? Any commitments that might get in the way in future? Any pending horsey purchases? etc."
