My saddler has recommended a Black Country GP saddle for my horse but she doesn't have one in at the moment. She has offered to fit one for me if I get it from somewhere else.

I have seen one in the right size etc but wouldn't be able to try it on before I buy as it is at the opposite end of the country.

The seller says it is a medium fit, and measures 8.5 inches D to D. I know D to D measurements vary between makes, so my question is - does 8.5 inches sound right for medium fit for this saddle make/style?

If it is medium wide it will be too wide.

Thank you!

Hmmm I'd ask for the measurement between panels at the front where it would actually contact the horse's back. At the wither. It does sound a bit wide as mine takes an extra wide and I'm sure his measures 9" d-d with 6" between panels.

I would ignore the D to D measurement. It's not just that it can vary between brands but some people measure from a slightly different place to other people so the measurement really means nothing at all.
