Black Lab - lump on eye

Our 11 yr old Labrador, China, has a lump on her left eyelid. It's been there over a year now, and is normally about the size of a pea. Sometimes it swells, then breaks off and bleeds a little, before going back to its original size. It never seems to cause her pain, and it doesnt affect her vision. We havent wanted to let the vet poke around as it seems the more you probe, the more problems you cause!

I just wondered if anyone else has experience of little lumps like this, as I know they are quite prevalent in Labs?

I would taker her to the vet, but I am a paranoid owner! Beastie schnauzer tends to be prone to little lumps, but the vet said they are just fatty deposists (all have been under the skin)
