Some of you may have read about Monty's change of career from Riding Club all rounder to show pony. Having won every class we've entered so far - just at local shows - we've decided to step up and are entering a VHS qualifier the weekend after next. So far I've ridden with a plain black whip but a show cane is definitely in order for this class! I can't decide whether to go black or brown though? He's being shown as a hunter (except I can't bring myself to pull his beautiful tail so it will be plaited) and I will be wearing tweed with a navy collar, beige breeches, blue shirt, navy and gold tie, brown gloves and black boots. Is black to match the boots best or brown to match his tack?

Thanks. Long term (if I get into this properly) would brown boots be better? I feel like they'd fit with the overall look better but not sure they're acceptable?

We're very aware it's a big step up but are just going along for a day out really. Apart from him being grey, he's very easy to do so it's quite good fun taking him. Judges seem to like him and we had a lesson at the weekend with an instructor we've not seen for a while who says she thinks he's moving better than ever and looked great for 22 so now's as good a time as any!

Brown came black boots. You can wear brown long boots but they look a bit odd.

Thanks, I like everything to match so wondered about brown boots to go with all the rest of the brown but very happy black is the norm as it'll save me a fortune! I've just spent over £100 on a proper navy velvet hat (rather than just a silk) and now a brown cane so this showing lark hs cost me enough as it is!
