Which tack is best suited for a dark bay eventer. Or does it not matter and is it personal preference.
Can you have a black bridle with a Havana saddle? As many people do.
Anyway- what would a dark bay (almost black) suit most that is eventing
Thanks!

Brown on everything. That being said I do have a black dressage saddle and do use it with a brown bridle. He is only 5 though and it was a nearly new bargain that fitted him. Once he has finished maturing/this one doesn't fit I will hopefully get a new brown one. It's personal preference of course though.

I have a havannah coloured saddle with black stirrup leathers and a slightly different colour of browb brown bridle (minus a noseband) with black reins on a bay & it doesn't bother me in the slightest :D

Either works. I've had three seal browns to date, and the first two had black tack, whilst my current boy has brown. They all looked smart, although I think that my personal preference is brown tack on any horse.

It doesn't matter.

It also doesn't matter if you have a bridle and saddle that are different colours, what matters is how your horse performs on the day, what you learn from your experience and that you end the day in one piece!

I don't think it matters
I personally will only use black because it's alot easier to match and I think it looks nicer especially when sparkling clean
I had my fair share of brown in my showing days but now anything goes

for me by far the most important thing in choosing tack is fit, and fit, and fit (Oh, and did I mention fit? :) )
After that comes quality and whether it suits the horse in looks.
Colour, branding and other fripperies are very much last place (though I'm a sucker for dark havana bridles as they get a beautiful lustrous sheen as they get older as long as they are well maintained)

PS I am currently riding in an old black saddle with a green suede seat (I don't know why either - twas second-hand) because it's wonderfully comfortable for both pony and I. Rest of our tack is havana. And of course, noone has even noticed !!!

I love brown tack, but agree with catkin that the fit is more important. If you're buying new, I would buy havana.

I would go for Havana if you are buying new. I have found with Havana that it can come in slightly different shades (only annoying for us with OCD!). Black I found is easier to match up if you're like me and have an unusual size horse needing a bridle made from separate pieces (a mix of full and cob!).

Agree that as long as it fits and is comfortable for horse and rider then it shouldn't really matter.

Always brown tack. The leather ages better, with cleaning over the years it gets a deep lustre. Black starts to grey over time & doesn't age nearly as well as brown.
