Need to get a new in hand bridle for Willow for this season, but dont know whether to get her a black one or a brown onw. Does it matter at county level or is black frowned upon?

Black is frowned upon at county level, go for brown definitely!

thats what i had thought especially with the ridden classes but didnt know if it were any different for in hand.

thing is will it look stupid on a black horse?

Not sure. I ride my coloured in black at county level but being black and white, brown looks horrible on her.

Brown tack is seen as correct for showing. I think black can look too harsh on some horses anyway. I don't have any black tack!

you can get a very very dark havana bridle that looks good on blacks, it looks almost black without the tacky shine that black has

We would never use black on any of our show horses, no matter what colour they are. Some of the browns are pretty dark though! Brown is best as not only is it more correct, but it will also be easier to sell if you ever need to get rid of it. However, I know some people are very successful in the show ring and they use black tack - things are much less strict these days.

cheers FMM. Both of my horses have black tack with both the ponies in brown but thats because the colours suit them.
I suppose I best go and search fro a very nice BROWN in hand bridle and rein.
