Black Sunflower Seeds

Hi there

I feed black sunflower seeds to my barefoot mare as they help her feet grow stronger. They are high in omega 6 oil which is good for all sorts of things. But it is an oil so fattening (bit of an issue for my mare at the moment!) but also contain useful elements such as magnesium and calcium and all sorts of other things.

They also add shine to the coat.

I buy them from my local feed merchant for £19 for 20kg. This is a big sack which lasts about 4-5months. I use about half a mug a day in summer and a mug a day in winter. They still have the hulls on which is great as this adds fibre to the diet too.

any other questions?

they but a good shine on your horse and yes if you feed a lot they will put weight on your horse but make sure there is no husk on them!
