Right girlies out there, Just been invited to the showjumpers balck tie ball. Need to know what kind of frock to get for it. presume it doesn't have to be black but must be formal (dressy) but not completely over the top. Is that right? i have a memory that black tie shouldn't be full length but should be cocktail.

Can any of you ball goers out there tell me am i on the right track?

Sorry about the non horsie related post but it is a horsie ball so it sort of fits

Black tie could mean full length to me, if I wasnt such a short a~se..... good excuse to get all glammed up!!

*whispers* this post should prob be in soap box!!

Am really SORRY!!!!! I never read the soap box section so didn't think of it. Really really sorry!!!!!!

Ditto! If you KNOW when you make the post that it doesn't belong in the horsey section - then why post it there?!

As previously explained, I don't use the soap box section so wasn't aware it existed! thats why I posted here and made it clear on the post that it wasn't horse related -

Gees, I said sorry, and its a forum for heavens sake - its like an on-line conversation. I understand that its important to keep the relevant posts in relevant sections but I said sorry!

I have now found the soap box section and posted it there. Why are some people so agressive on this forum? there really is no need for it. Are people really this agressive in person? Scarey thought!

I think it's because there have been quite a few posts put in the wrong place lately and there was a post asking for people to put them in the correct one. I don't think people were being aggressive, just a bit peeved that it keeps happening.

But all cleared up now!

But as for the original post, black tie means full length and fabulous! Take the opportunity to dress up, get your hair and nails done and buy a great pair of new shoes!

Enjoy and show us some pics of the dress you choose.

very true observation

If it says non horsey and you don't want to read it then don't read it... no point in moaning at the poor poster who knew no better....

On the subject matter - it might mean full length but I can never find a full length and have been to about 8 balls and never worn a full length... always wear cocktail. Whilst on the subject, oli.co.uk have some really nice dresses!

Good luck and enjoy!

I find 'black tie' dos vary a lot in their formality. Some have 'rules' when the gentlemen can remove their jackets - usually after the toast to the queen etc but they all end up the same way! (Drunken people singing on tables LOL!!)
Go glammed up in whatever you feel then post us some piccies - in the photo gallery though so you don't upset anyone!!
