Hi everyone
I am just posting a message to see if anyone may be able to recommend some vets and blacksmiths in Derbyshire (or the surrounding areas). I am thinking of moving there with my horse next year. I know it seems a bit early to be looking into vets and blacksmiths but she has a few 'special needs' and I am really worried about finding good ones. We won't be going across near the Nottingham border, its more likely to be nearer the Cheshire border. I have a thoroughbred mare who is really nervous and this can make her seem really difficult to people who don't know her. It comes across that she is just being nasty but she's actually a real sweetie and just needs understanding. I am petrified of changing blacksmiths as mine is great with her and I have no problems and I'm trying to find one similar to him!! Basically she's as good as gold for the blacksmith as long as he doesn't touch her anywhere, apart from the bottom half of her legs! If they try to pat her or anything (which you'd normally think to do with a nervous horse) she can become impossible. I just need someone who is really quiet and patient. She doesn't mess around if they treat her how I tell them to so I also need someone who will be OK about that. Sometimes she may take her foot off the stand but as long as he's patient and just puts it back on she's fine but if she's shouted at or smacked again it will become impossible! Therefore if anyone had any suitable recommendations (or people they may think would be unsuitable) please could they sent me a private message. I'm not sure if it would be OK to post messages on the forum of peoples names and numbers so a private message would probably be better. Also I did have a brill blacksmith in Lancashire ages ago called Tony Kaye but he moved to Cheshire and I don't have his number now so if anyone knows where he is and had a telephone number for him that would be great! He may be near enough if I'm near the Cheshire border. I wanted to ring blacksmiths way in advance as I know they often don't take new people on so I need to be organised! Also a reliable blacksmith would be better aswell as she needs to be tied up before the blacksmith comes (as she won't be caught if she sees him first!) Therefore its a bit of a pain if they are running hours late or don't turn up at all!

I also wondered if anyone could recommend horse vets around this area aswell. The vet doesn't need to be quite as 'perfect' as the blacksmith as she can be sedated but they need to be confident as otherwise she'll just scare them too much! Also I'd prefer someone patient who won't shout at her.

Any names and numbers (by private message) would be great!

Thanks very much

Love Lucyxxx

Hi
Thanks for the recommendation. Are there a few vets at that practice? Do any specialise particularly in horses? Would you mind sending me the telephone number for the practice by private message. I could end up on the Staffordshire border - not sure yet. Is that near Stoke? Not really good with my geography around there yet!! If so would your blacksmith be suitable do you think, from the description of my horse!! Got a recommendation from someone on Stoke side who sounds really good so maybe it's the same one!
Thanks
