This probably sounds like a strange question, but here goes!

My son has qualified for the WHP finals at Blair on Thursday, 23rd August and we would have planned to book a stable for the duration of the event (Wed - Sun) so that we could arrive in time, compete and then stay to enjoy the event with the Euro Champs.

However, sons school goes back on Wednesday, 22nd and father says he can't have any time off.... So, what I wondered was if I booked a stable but didn't take pony for WHP could we still get the lorry in on the Friday night to stay to Sunday or would our pass (and/or stable) be limited to one day/night? We'd still be paying for the stable and so contributing the event financially but would have somewhere to stay as have been told all B&B's in area are booked up.

Any thoughts if this would be possible and ok to do, or maybe there is likely to be a shortage of stables and we'd be unreasonable to book one and not use it? Want to make sure we do the right thing!

It is near impossible to get a stable for one night at Blair let alone for the week. The pass is only for the Thursday and they really only want the hunters to stay on the wednesday night.

If you are staying I would speak to the Caravan park. They have let lorries in in the past or you could higher out a big caravan if you don´t have your own.

I think it is a little mean of your son´s father to not let him have an extra 2 days off school. Nothing happens in the first week and Blair is such a fantastic event it would be a shame not to go as you would have such a great time.

Your pass for the working hunter will only gain entry on the Wed night and the Thursday. It's won't gain you access on the Friday. However if you are registered BSJA them you can get a pass for the Fri, Sat Sun into the lorry park (by entering a horse and booking stabling!). The working hunter stables are also used by the BSJA so if you have a working hunter stable the chances are on the Thursday night it will be taken over by a BSJA competitor if that makes sense! Why not ring Blair Horse Trials office and offer to help on the Saturday that way you will gain access without a problem!! Be warned that the lorry parks are normally full to bursting (even worse this year with the Euro's) and it may prove problematic to get a space on the Friday night!

Yeah, all I know is that apparently you have to pretend to enter a class every day to warrant having a stable. Basically if you're just entered for the Thursday then they kick you out after! But like someones said, if your reg BSJA then if you enter a class each day (even if you dont do it) then you can stay. Ive qualified for 2 things which have 1 day off in between the days they're on - so I wonder if Blair would want me to move out for the day in between?! Sounds crazy to me!
