How do you clipping experts think this would look?

Want to clip his legs out but if he's fully clipped he might be cold so was thinking this might be an option???

I think it will look fine. You can always take the legs off this time and then leave them on the second time. It coulnd't look any worse than Langside's horse I would imagine...

My mare is a hairy beastie. I have done a blanket clip, and intially left her legs unclipped.
However, this looked particularly silly, so now have clipped her legs out.
She looks very smart (although I say it myself), and she doesnt seem to be chilly either.
I guess it depends on how hairy the legs are in the first place??

I saw it done on a cold backed hairy monster who hunted. Kept his legs neat (and any scratches easily seen) but kept his back and loins nice and toasty. Didn't look weird at all.

I did this with the driving ponies last year. They had to do too much standing around un-rugged for full clips but being grey, often driving in wet and muddy conditions, and needing washing off a lot meant is was much nicer for them having their legs clipped out as they dried so much faster. They were also easier to wipe clean of stable stains in the morning.

Thats it Flame, its cruel for me to take it all off when he doesn't need to be quite that cold, but I want him to look smart and his feather needs to come off so I can keep an eye on whats going on under it.

Hmmm

Suppose as someone has said, I can leave it on and decide if he looks like a prize prat, and whip it all off if the answer is yes lol

Ok another question - do I clip the whole leg or just the white feathery part?

Off, leave them on for the subsequent clip if you want to.

I always think very hairy 'waders' look really odd. When I was clipping my daughter's ponies I took EVERYTHING off for the first clip and then gave them a trace/blanket or whatever next time.

Here's a compromise...! I've just done a blanket on my hairy cob and just taken off the backs of the legs from top to bottom in front and up to hock behind. Apparently its called an Irish clip...? Very old fashioned. I like it cos it frees up the feathers and elbows but keeps a bit of protection in front against thorns etc....

Personally I'd leave them on. You can tidy up the legs - and with his colouring will look really, really smart.

My previous little horse was very similar to yours. And I would trim the legs up - even with a hunter clip, I never took them off. If they're going out - they need the protection.
