Blanket rubbing

Okay so got a tough one. My boy has started to get a rub at one spot on his mane due to the top of his blanket, it’s a good quality and he wears a slinky underneath but it’s not helping enough. Usually I’d take it off but Mother Nature is being funny this year and we still have -10 with snow and his coat hasn’t come back fully from being clipped ?

ive checked and the fit is good and I can get a whole hand in between the blanket and the top of his neck. his straps aren’t too tight and it’s a decent fit except for that one spot. Thankfully were going to get some okay days with +10 so it can come off for a few hours, but still -10 at night. that’s also not every day too, only so,e

any ideas to combat the rubbing for him wearing it half the day?

You could try coating both the mane and the inside of the rug with a mane and tail spray or coat conditioner. You are clearly not in the UK so I don't know what makes are available for you.

Yeah I’m now in Western Canada. Out spring is usually up and down but this one is ridiculous. I can try either a deranged or coat conditioner. We have mane and tail here. Thanks for the idea.

If that fails, you could try sewing a sizeable piece of fur fabric inside the rug on either side, with a gap where the rub is, to try nd keep the pressure off that area.

If the rug has developed a fixed crease where the rub is you may have difficulty solving this problem except by changing the style of rug.

You could try stitching a large piece of slippery material, satin for example, inside. This would perhaps make the rug move easily on the mane instead of catching and rubbing it away.

So update on this one. a buddy at the barn recommended show sheen (detangler) on the area. Going to try that and see how it works too.

she also said it might be my blanket slinky and I should switch it up to a better one. my list of horsey things to get is never ending...
