Hello,

I have a 13yo gelding in full work. Goes outside everyday, spends the night inside. I would like to put a blanket on him, to keep him clean and help him maintain bodycondition, without clipping.
Any advice? What kind of filling would be best?

I have always rugged my unclipped chestnut mare for the winter as she is very fine coated.

If your horse does grow a decent coat however, you will have to be very careful that he doesn't get too hot.

Are you in the UK?

Yes this, from the term you've used ("blanket") I guess you might be in the US? If so it would help to know where - whether or not to rug (aka "blanket"!) and what type of rug to use depends hugely on what sort of weather you get. Dry cold, wet cold, wet warm...the answer will be entirely different depending on what sort of winter weather you get.

I replied to you when you asked the same question last year and I'd say the same again I think. https://forums.horseandhound.co.uk/threads/0g-on-hairy-horse.797925/

Surely it depends what breed your horse is, how it generally carries condition, the actual weather conditions for the day and where you live? Quite a lot of factors to consider when deciding what to rug with ;)
