You'd expect someone selling lots of horsey items to know how to measure stirrups wouldn't you?
Have just received some Stubben stirrups sold as 5" which I needed as my new boots are a bit wider than normal. The blasted things are only 41/2", exactly the size of my originals! Mad is not the word, what a waste of time and money as she doesn't do returns I'll have to sell them and find another pair when I wanted/needed them NOW!!!!!!!!!!.

How annoying! In fairness I sold my 19'' saddle as an 18'' because I didn't measure it, just assumed  I thought it felt big and sloshy when I rode in it!! This is the trouble with having a shed full of stuff and randomly digging things out. You think you know what something is but actually you have no idea!

I'm about to trawl ebay for a full cheek snaffle even though I don't know what size I need so I'll probably be reselling anything I buy but I'm too impatient to wait until this evening to work it out properly!

Well they could say that and send you a paper clip instead of what you were meant to be buying and use that excuse! (in exaggerating but for instance they could send you 2" stirrups lol!) :) I think if you make a stink they'll back down. If they aren't 5", they aren't 5" and are wrongly described. Which I think Ebay does cover you for?

I have a French link with eggbutt full cheeks as mine hates anything but a plain jointed loose ring one; it's almost 5 1/2" if that's any good?

You can send them back and they will be made to cover return postage as the item is not as described. Just make sure you do it offically through paypal/ebay :)

First thing is to email the seller and say the stirrups aren't the size they were described as. Then take a picture of the stirrups with a tape measure next to them to prove this. Ask the seller for a refund. Send them back via a trackable method, Royal Mail Signed For is acceptable, and keep the receipt.

If the seller will not accept a return for refund then I would open a case against them. The seller will be forced to ask you to send them back and then to refund you.

Saying they don't accept returns means nothing.

There sould be slightly more of an issue here rather than just miss measuring. some saddlers measure to the outside of the stirrup and some the inside. I know when I owned a saddlery that the measurements from the suppliers were not consistant with bits, or stirrups and did cause some problems with customers. So I would try the nice way first, ask her how she measured them as they are not inches and see how she reacts to that. A dispute with Ebay on this one may not be clear cut.

Thanks everyone for your help and encouragement. Sadly I had already sent an email to the seller acknowledging that she doesn't take returns but I was miffed off that they were not as described so don't know if that has put a spanner in the works for a refund but will see what I can do.

Bosworth, I'm really surprised that both measurements are being used; is that since the foreigners have taken over our lorinery work as my old saddler would bust a gut if he knew that?

If the item is SNAD - significantly not as described - she has to refund on return.
If she argues report it via ebay & send the stirrups back recorded delivery.

I ordered some irons from eBay through seller world equine 2010 and ordered the wrong size, rang them, lady said they'll swap them and I posted them back and received the correct size the next day so they'd posted them even though they hadn't got the other ones back yet. I obviously paid postage as my error. Maybe worth looking them up as delivery was also very quick. (I have no link with this company just a happy customer)
