Not at all suprised after the rain we've just had.
My road is swimming, the village down the road is completely flooded.
We have weather warnings in Oxfordshire till 9pm.

The xc was really okay when we walked it this afternoon with a couple of riders, but after the terrible rain tonight I am not suprised.

Such a shame.

BDWP looks exactly the same as usual to me! Blenheim's website hasn't been updated since 6pm - perhaps BDWP is quicker at being updated. They're usually really hot on stuff like that

Such a shame it's been cancelled though

Not sure why BDWP would be updated but not the BE site or the Blenheim site? Surely they would have done a press release when they decided to cancel rather than letting it leak out?

Oh poo, weather in Oxfordshire was scheduled to be dry this weekend!

I was side-tracked by a report absolutely slating the traffic management into the CLA Game Fair, with the local Council saying that Blenheim should never host the game fair again as they couldnt get traffic control right!

Just noticed the BE website has been updated - the headline on the front page saying 'Blenheim will run' has been removed

BLENHEIM HORSE TRIALS CANCELLED 12/09/2008 2030 hours

It is with great regret that the organising committee has taken the decision to cancel the Blenheim Palace International Horse Trials, for which the cross-country and jumping phases were due to take place this weekend (September 13-14).

The decision was taken after the dressage phase, when further very heavy rain had fallen on already muddy ground.

Director Mandy Hervieu said: “This is so disappointing, because a huge amount of work has gone into the organisation of Blenheim. The whole team has worked incredibly hard to cope with the conditions, especially David Evans and his course-building team, who have been working round the clock to try and improve the ground on the cross country course.

“However, the safety of horses and riders is of paramount importance, plus vehicular access, and it was decided that the ground conditions could not ensure this.”

Blenheim’s host, The Duke of Marlborough, commented: “It’s so frustrating, because we were set for a great weekend with a terrific cross-country course, which has been reversed for the first time, and a very strong field of horses and riders due to tackle it. This is the first time we have had to cancel the event.”

I was there today, and they were out putting all weather take off on all the jumps, so if they were going to always cancel after the dressage why were they wasting their time and money doing that at 2pm today?

hate to agree with you but i suspect the emargency services had the last word. and sadly it is true that th refund for abandonment is not the same as for cancelation nor is the insurance cover.

TBH I am not that surprised, the actual course didnt look too bad, well the bits we looked at and noticed that a fences had been removed but the tracks from the vehicles were making other areas very muddy. If it hadnt rained today they would have stood a better chance of it going and on the way home there was lots of rain falling on the M40 around Oxford which possibly affected Blenheim.

It is a real shame as the course looked good and it would have been a great competition.

This is a diaster for British Eventing.

BE own both Burghley and Blenheim, and the profits that these two events make contribute SIGNIFICANTLY/massivefully to their annual turnover. All other national three days are indepedantly owned. Burghley spectators were down a lot this year, partly its believed due to people a long way away not wanting to risk a wasted journey. Now this. It is no ones fault, but the cancellation couldnt have come at a worse time in terms of the money that will have already been said. I think I am right in saying that BE has an e'mergency reserve fund of half a million (although I may have made this figure up! but im sure i read it last year.) I struggle to see how this fund will cover the losses of the last two weeks. Lets not forget the number of events cancelled recently either and the fact that the abandonment fund must literally be empty. I hope I'm wrong, but I think BE may well be in big trouble. So at the least I imagine thats another tenner on entry fees next year.

Also, what a nightmare for all the riders in terms of qualifications. The two remaining 3* in Europe turned away a total of 50 british competitors already due to oversubscription, but I heard rumours that Pau may be running an extra 3*.

What a shame for the riders, and BE.

I feel sorry for the ones who pulled out of Burghlry to go to Blenheim.

Where next? Is it only Krueth and Boekelo?
lifes-lemons- does this meen that they wont get another run this year?

Just think, most of them are in their second 3*, aiming at badders next year, if they don't get a run their behing 6 months, so will not go to badders, but burghley, meaning that some will wiss out on Euros selection!

What a nightmare!

Getting in wasn;t too bad (at least not on th Friday when we were working in the gundog tent) but getting out was a real pain. They refused to let anyone leave from the top exhibitors car park until about 7 pm becuase of a couple of accidents on the road outside and once you got into the line of traffic crawling around the estate on the marked route out (and stopping all the time to let people in that were leaving from other car parks) it took about an hour to reach the main road. Thank goodness we only live about an hour away otherwise we would never have got home!

Wjem we go to the CLA when it is held at Belvior we never have the same trouble!

I must admit Ciss that when I saw the reports I was glad I hadnt gone! I havent been for a few years now but have been to Stoneleigh, Romsey etc and never had that much of a problem getting out

Hopefully it was just one of those things which wouldnt be repeated if they were to host it again

Just checked my emails & I rec'd a message fromBlenheim just before 10pm. At least they'll automatically refund the ticket money. I'll have to watch Monza qualifying on TV instead.
