Blimey, this guy must be taking a wagon over and picking them up off the verges!

Looks like a bargain of a horse! maybe he is just useing it as a shop window advert, and when you ring up, more than often has already been sold, but is a ploy to get you to look at his other horses, could be wrong and as you say, must be getting them for nothing or very cheep.
 
I would be concerned the warranty might not stand for too much.
The horse looks like a tb so could well be out of racing, in which case £500 is not really an unusual price, they can be had over here for that and less.
 
I had the unfortunate experience of accompanying somebody to look at one of his horses. I wouldn't go near with a ten foot barge pole, and that is being polite!
 
Ah, right, not a nice experience uh? I'm not buying, got too many as it is (and not my type!). I was just mosying around Horsemart when I should be working!
 
Had a bad experience with this guy years ago when he was 'involved' with Robert Smith. We didn't buy but just to say his yard and the horses in it were not a good advert for them :mad:
 
Does anyone know if the horse they went to view was
A) There
B) Physically as depicted in photograph
C) Able to be 'tried' (ridden, groomed, lunged, handled?)

or did they just say 'oh no that's gone but you can have a look at this one....'?
 
I dont know this dealer but i do know in Ireland people do not want horses so he probably is picking them up very cheap. A hunting friend of mine was telling me only yesterday of someone she knows who were hunting in Ireland only to go past a field with two horses literally dying in the field, thats how bad it is in some places over there.
 
You can pick them up for a couple of hundred pound in this country at some horse sales, you certainly don't need to go over to Ireland for them...I doubt very much some of them have ever seen Ireland.

ps. not aiming that comment at you irishdraft, I'm just saying in general. :)

Long story short. ;)

Bought a cob unseen, heard from a friend about him and being a soft touch and stupid cow I decided to go for it. (I know but I'm stupid like that) Supposedly 5 year old heavy weight, come straight off the boat from Ireland, bombproof but 'nervous' being handled.

Turned out to be barely 3 years old, obviously taken a beating at some point because was shy of any quick movements. Couldn't carry a stick anywhere near him or raise your hand without him bolting. Blind in one eye, and had cuts all over his legs where they'd obviously tried to clip him with scissors!!! The only thing that was good about him was he wasn't scared of traffic,kids or dogs!! :rolleyes:

Tried to find out more where he'd come from and this 'gentlemans' name came up, I rang a friend who deals in Cheshire and he told me some real horror stories and said that I was lucky to have got what I did from him because my story wasn't as bad as some!!!!! :eek:

Granted I didn't pay a huge amount of money for him and 7 years on I had a fabulous beautiful calm and fun boy but the real him has only just arrived in the last 2 years. :(

Oh there was no question he was/is going anywhere my horses are like my dogs once landed they are staying for life come what may;)!! I was lucky at the time to have 20 acres (damn ex who made me sell the place!!:mad:) and a loan horse who I could ride so it was a matter of rebacking when ready and taking everything slowly. He's worth his weight in gold now and I certainly don't regret getting him.
 
can't believe he is still trading, why do the ad magazines take ads from him, because some poor person will get pulled in. poor poor horses to be hawked about by someone like him i would rather they were pts
 
I used to work for him, a fair few years ago when he was still married and had much higher standards. I wouldn't touch him now with someone elses barge pole! I still see him on a regular basis at York sales, he stops bidding at about £200. So if he bought that one at £200 theres still £300 profit in it for him!

He did get done by Trading Standards, it was a fairly high profile case, no idea how hes still trading TBH! I also spoke to a friend of a friend a few weeks ago who had been to see one of his horses. She didnt have a nice experience. If your looking for a cheap project type then buy one warranted from York Sales. They let you return them if not as described which is more than Phil does!
