just wondering if anyone has had a blind dog, our cocker (now 7) lost an eye when she was a puppy due to a cat scratch this has never bothered her - however - she now has an ulcer in her good eye due to something getting in and damaging it, she was back at the vet yesterday and they have cut the ulcer out and hope that now it is smooth (not good at explaining things sorry) that it will heal ok but so far she hasnt much if any sight and is bumping into things, i am worried that she will loose sight in this eye too and end up blind will she cope ok??

thanks

i think it's easier on the dog if it's not the only dog around, they can rely on others a bit too. but, our old boxer who we had when i was a kid was pretty much blind towards the end (cataracts, but in the days before they could operate on them) and as long as we didn't move any furniture, she was absolutely fine, if anything her hearing sharpened and she became a teensy bit more obedient, for her own safety! hope you have a good outcome with her remaining eye.

My mum's Jack Russell went blind quite suddenly through diabetes. She coped very well - knew where the furniture was negotiated her way round it. She was very intelligent. I think how they cope depends very much on the individual dog. Good luck.
