So despite still having the vertigo, I have had enough of resting and needed some serious horse therapy! I had a lovely trip down to the stables today and I had two objectives to achieve, the first to sort out dee’s feed and the second to relax.
So I was asking for peoples opinions on Pure Horse Feeds the other day and after much research I have decided to change delicia’s diet. Currently she is fed Saracens re-leve, alfa A, alfabeet and garlic. I am actually going against what the company recommended me as am starting delicia on the Pure Easy feed, as I would much rather have to go up a level then down one if it goes wrong!
I devised a feed plan for the staff there to move her over onto the feed,
Week One
1 scoop Alfa A
¼ scoop releve (she was already on a half scoop)
½ scoop alfabeet
2 handfulls of Pure Easy working up to ¼ scoop by day 7.

Week Two
1 scoop Alfa A
¼ scoop alfabeet
½ scoop Pure Easy

Week Three
1/2 scoop Alfa A
¾ scoop Pure Easy

Week Four
¼ scoop Alfa A
1 scoop Pure Easy

Week Five
1 ½ scoop Pure Easy
I have to be very careful changing delicia’s feed as she is rather a sensitive soul. I ended up opting for the Pure Easy, it’s a mixture of grass nuts, oat feed nuts, oat straw, grass chaff and soya oil. (See nutritional table below)

I had a good look at the feed, I do like to be able to pick it up and view it. It’s a very tidy way of feeding and I was impressed. It should make it very simple to feed her. She will be fed 3kg split over 2 feeds and continue on her ad lib hay. The grass is just starting to come through and so in light of how good the summer grazing is, although dee looks lovely now and I want her to maintain condition, I do not want her to start to gain too much weight. Too fat is just as bad, if not worse, as too thin. At least, my thoughts are, that if she isn’t getting enough condition/energy from the feed, I can add to it, maybe half:half with Pure Easy:Pure Condition. Only time will tell.

Overall, Delicia has never looked better, she is so happy and relaxed and has made some great equine friends. Shes the best behaved she has ever been and my progress with the snaffle meant I hacked out on her in her snaffle!!!. This is the first time ever I have ever done this and a huge mile stone for us as a partnership.

There was a childrens pony birthday party going on down the yard today, loads of balloons and screaming kids, reminded me when I was a child and I enjoyed watching them out of the corner of my eye as I schooled dee after our hack. I had to postpone my lesson with clearlight as my vertigo was too bad last weekend, but it is rearranged for next Sunday so expect a full report and pictures. Dee was a good girl, there were some bright pink balloons right next to the school and she did a big sharp shy at them, almost unseating me  :D. But I got her back on my side by making her go in shoulder in down the long side past the balloons, she was very up and I am finding her trot work easier to sit too as she is more up rather then just forwards forwards forwards. She is also starting to get the knack of stretching in her walk without diving down or rushing off, and her canter work is calmer :O  this actually shocks me but I am so pleased.

I am sure some of you might also remember that Dee’s birthday is coming up….and for a present I bought her a browband. :D I got to fit it to her bridle today and I must say, she looks stunning in it! The pictures don’t do it justice for how shiney and blingy it is. :D I cannot believe I have owned delicia 7 years as of two weeks time, god I feel old. But I feel more inspired then I ever have.

Onwards and upwards. And so, picture/video time!
The complete bridle

Delicia then suffered yet again at my hands, nakedness in the field! Poor pony… joking aside, isn’t it lovely weather today?! Was utterly fabulous to allow dee naked in the field today, she enjoyed every second of it.

She hears and neighs to ponies trotting nearby in the forest

black_horse why are you changing her diet when she looks as good as she does!

I'm not being rude just genuinely interested why, I actually changed away from re-leve some time ago as mine were like wet weekends on it but they certainly didn't look as good as yours does on it.

Because although its fab for the winter, with the summer coming and an increase in sugar levels she gets too much energy from it. Also, shes put a fab lot of weight on from it (520kg to 600kg since moving), and i need to curb the weight gain a little :)

That's interesting as mine just lacked energy on it and lost a lot of their 'bloom' too. I had many chats with Saracen and as they had horses who race off it they said they really shouldn't lose energy. I tried it with EquiJewel too as that's supposed to increase oomph when added to it but it just didn't work.

Funny isn't it how different they all are.

She looks absolutely great :)

Thats strange :) Having said that, dee has an awful lot of natural energy. She has had equijewel in the past too :). I highly rate saracens food but it gets expensive after a while!
