I try to give A a bit of turnout every day, at least in the round pen as most paddocks are occupied with youngstock at the mo but sometimes he spends a part of the day tied under a tree. Now, he used to be something of an escapologist at old yard, and was known for wriggling out of any headcollar or breaking any clip/leadrope. He has been much better at new yard and after letting himself out of his stable on the first night and hoonying around for a couple of hours, has since been on his best behaviour...
You can tell where this is going, right? The little *insert rude word* undid his headcollar today and went off for a jaunt. I saw him JUST as he got away and he saw me... waved goodbye and with an unmistakeable smirk trotted jauntily off into the unknown. By 'the unknown' I actually mean the neighbour's property, which is VAST and mostly occupied by HUGE beef cattle and very little fencing (at least I knew he wasn't going to get on the road). Anyway, A will usually let ME, his mummy, catch him, but this time he clearly thought I wasn't looking hot or flustered enough and he merrily led me on a lengthy trek across a river (only a little one) through a field full of bulls and past a lady buffalo with a little buffalo who both ran away- They can really shift!. Honestly I walked for ages with A letting me get tantalisingly close before effing off again bucking and farting and laughing his round ginger arse off. He made me SO cross! I'm sooo glad he finally found a fence or I'm convinced I'd still be chasing him now and by the time I caught him I'd've handed him over to the first person we came across.
I told him off all the way home but he was totally unrepentant- He'd had SUCH a lovely time!! (and no, I didn't smack or beat him in any way as it would've been totally pointless)

Sorry but laughed mt socks off

Oh sorry PF. A had been talking to Zeus I am afraid, although Zeus didn't tell him to make you actually CHASE him!!.

He thought Zeus's account of a night time hooley through the forest, across a vast tobacco field

, a couple hundred acres of cornfields and lastly through the local trailer park sounded fun maybe. By the time I'd actually found Zeus he was so pleased to see me he came cantering up to me, and no-one there to witness that

Anyway, I'm glad all was well and that he has been forgiven. Although a 45 minute trek might have made me pretty mad too. You love him really!

Thanks for that, it gave me a laugh on a dreary, wet day. I do share your frustration though, they can be so annoying when they just keep out of reach . I have thrown a headcollar at a disappearing behind before now and gone off in a sulk (and yes of course I know that doesn't do any good but made me feel better at the time

).

My Ginger girl has proved me wrong today, (presumably she has now decided to do some lulling herself

) I foolishly decided to ride out in the rain and a gale and although she was very much on her toes and bouncing A LOT, she was fantastic.

Presumably on the next calm day she will turn into spook monster again.

hehe that made me smile, sorry!

Think of how good that walk was for you.... I'm sure he was only thinking of that

I think i'd have threatened him with some of the things you did and more to be honest, what a monkey :P
