Blistering on splints works well, I have never known it to fail. When you blister anything it is usually best to give 3 months field rest. You can get 'working blister' which you can keep riding them with, but I feel the time is important. It is usually best on fresh splints, if it is fully formed it may just be best to let it be. If you need rid for cosmetic reasons it is worth doing it properly and giving the time off. However, if you dont show does it really matter? Once they are formed they dont bother horses (unless there is an underlying problem causing the splint), and if you are worried about selling the majority of buyer wont be bothered either.

thanks for your reply. it is about 3 months old. have just started using splintex. i am allowed to ride him a week on tuesday providing he is sound. he has had 2 months box rest already and had steroid injected. i am just worried it will affect his soundness.

the cosmetic issue doesnt bother me as his jumping boots will cover it up and i would never ever sell him. its just so massive it makes me worry

Hi, my horse knocked himself and got a massive splint, I was gutted. Its taken over a year and although its there its hardly noticeable now.

Please give it more time, my horse had one that he developed lat november and it was bigger than a golf ball, it is only now calming down after using splintex for several months, if he is sound i would leave well alone.
