Taking advantage of a very quiet yard as most people are away for the weekend. I had to be up early as the farrier was coming to do their feet; just as I was going to put them back out I thought "why not" and decided to see how blitz would be with a saddle.

I put the saddle cloth on, went away to get the saddle, showed the saddle to Blitz and put it on his back. Faffed around a bit, putting the billets through the loops etc before I got the girth.

Attached the girth to the first two holes on one side then walked round, reached under his belly and fastened it up tight enough so that it wasn't looping under his belly. Walked back around and tightened up the other side again.

Took him out of his box for a short walk around the front yard; then took him round to the school for a proper walk around. Walked him in a few circles and backed him up a bit.

Back in his box and off with the saddle.

Absolutely zero reaction to anything

Although the saddle wasn't done up "riding tight" I think I may need a smidge longer girth anyway (blooming enormous horse needing a 32" dressage girth!)

He's only 2 and a half, so I'm taking things very casually, little bits here and there - total time saddled today about 15 minutes.

Now he probably won't have it on again until the summer when I start doing a bit more "work" with him after his 3rd birthday.

Apart from his height, Blitz is the epitome of the Mérens breed, calm, curious and bold, taking everything in their stride... I thoroughly recommend them
