Sorry of repeat -lost my last post. My Pony who is usually on restricted grazing negotiated his fencing today into a large unrestricted area. Not overly lush but a lot more than usual. He could have been in there for 4 -5 hours. Tonight he is really bloated, not in anyway distressed and tucking into his smallish soaked haynet. He is a little sweaty but very hairy and its warming. Normal pulse and bowel sounds. Should I worry ? I would call vet in a heart beat if I thought he looked distressed or colicky but he doesn't ( yet ).

To be honest I would just keep an eye on him. Bet his pleased with himself!!! My pony popped over the fence in to the lush cow field and was there all night. He was very bloated the next morning, it passed quite quickly, mainly as wind! I know you said he was prone to lami, hopefully the grass does not have enough goodness in it for that! I think. Would be more worried about colic.

Keep a close eye on him, is he passing a normal amount of muck that is moist ?

I cringed when I saw your post, this is exactly what my heavyweight hunter did back in 2004 and I lost him 48 hours later.

He was actually a bit cross as he likes napping in his stable in the day and he couldn't get back to his comfy bed - guess he zapped himself on the way out and wasn't risking coming back ! Just saw your post AA, yes am a bit worried and waiting for him to poo. At least he is at home so I can pop out through the night to check him.

My pony bloated on Sunday after starting on high fibre horsehage, he was fine in himself but looked like he was expecting triplets ;-) By the next morning he was back to normal again xx

My pony escaped during summer into the nature reserve behind his field. He must have been there all night, then didn't want to be caught. A good hour later I got hold of him and rolled him into a stable while I fixed the fencing. He stood stock still in the stable for a couple of hours, didn't move a muscle and I was a bit worried. He is very nervous in a stable normally. When I turned him back out he laid straight down, flat out on his side for a good hour. I was worried and watched him, but he soon got up, shook it off and went back to grazing! It was a worrying few hours!

Thank you. We had a bit of a worrying night. Vet came at midnight and gave jabs, wasn't really much better by 5 but no worse and reasonably mild symptoms but by 6 was much brighter and shouting for breakfast. Still looks pregnant but not sweating or blowing now and pooing ok. Let him out for a leg stretch and to keep the bowels moving but brought him back in for a few hours now. Fingers crossed we are in the right direction. Now to do a day of pre schoolers with no sleep !

Seems much better and refusing to eat his bran mash the vet recommended after I bought a 20 kg sack this morning because he doesn't like it !

I was looking after a friend's ponies. I went to let them out the first morning and a neighbour said "what was wrong with the ponies last night, the noises and the smells were awful." When I went to pick the droppings up they were full of holes like sponges. They seemed ok when I brought them in in the evening. Normally they were let out a couple of times a day for a few hours, but they had been out all day to try and save me a few journeys. Their grazing was immediately restricted again.
