Does anyone have any experience with this? My mare has had a watery eye for a day or so, the discharge is just tears there is no colour in it, the eye is not swollen and it doesn't seem to be bothering her really!
I have called the vet but I think it may just be a blocked tear duct, do any of you know the treatment, how much it costs (est) and how long it takes to work?
Just want a little bit more information really?

thanks

My mare has runny eyes. One vet suggested flushing her tear ducts. Another vet turned up to do the job and said "You do know this won't work don't you?". Did the job, charged me nearly £200 and she was right, it made no real difference.

my old mare had a blocked tear duct and the vet flushed it out but it didnt work. he said the next option would be an operation but said that he thought it wasnt worth doing because of the cost and the riskof anasthetic but should be fine if i was prepared to manage it. i used to wipe her eyes every day with damp cotton wool(clean each time) and would use a fly mask in the summer as the flies were attracted to the moisture. it never got infected as i was ultra careful, sadly she is no longer here.....

We had a horse with this. It was a long time ago so can't remember the cost but remember the vet flushing it out and he was fine after that.

One of my horses had it a lot when he was younger I paid to have it cleared once and within a week it was blocked again, I did keep it clean and as dry as possible and fly free in summer and we managed it did just stop on its own after some time and it's never happened again his 13 now,
