blocker tie ring

Has anyone got any experience with these, do they work?
Samba goes through phases of being fine to tie up and then being terrible to tie up. Wondering if this will help?

I think that they are a great idea for tying up, but I wouldn't want to pay that much for one, I'm sure that you can make one from an old snaffle bit, I'll see what I can find online.
