So i went to get Monroe in from the field today, as shes starting her new 'boot camp' training to shift a ton of weight. Got to the gate and she saw me, but stood still just staring at me
She ALWAYS comes trotting over without fail. I thought that was a bit odd, so off i went walking over to get her- headcollar on- and started to walk her in. She seemed a little bit dawdley (is that even a word??) but didnt think anything of it.. then when we got out of the gate onto the stoney earth, she froze and wouldnt put any weight on one of her front feet... thought maybe she had a stone or something so i scraped her feet out with my car key (sorry OH
)
Gave her a few persuasive tugs on the rope and she reluctantly took a few steps and she was hopping lame
Then had to spend 15 minutes coaxing her down the concrete track in little bursts of hobbly walk, she was shaking and clearly very uncomfortable poor girl.
Vet called out, out of hours typical, and after a bit of poking and prodding she came to the conclusion that she may have laminitus as she was responsive to the hoof testers in both fronts. Slightly more responsive in one front in an area to the side of the foot- so could possibly be an absess she says.
Pony is now poulticed and on box rest on a super thick bed up to the door.
Cant help feeling like i should have known this was coming as when i lunged her on Thursday she did have a fleeting moment a couple of times in trot that looked a teeny bit lame..
*sigh* wine if you got this far- i know im going to be having a few glasses!
