I have 2 horses 'retired' at a blood bank - a good option if you dont have your own land. Where mine are at they have to be over 15hh, under 15 years. Ones that are more dominant settle into the herd quicker, and they need good feet as they are kept in deep litter barns in winter. I dont think TB 's do as well as the heavier types. I have been back to visit mine - they look look very healthy and happy if a bit feral. It's sad in a way when I remember them all fit with pulled manes etc, but I guess that's a bit anthropomorphic....
