posting again as i find all the replies very helpful:) my pony has cushings and this last week has been very low and down, had a runny nose too, the vet is coming out on thursday with a view of putting her on prascend. a couple weeks ago she sneezed really hard and i a trickle of blood in her nostril, not much but enough to make me worry, then today i have gone up to see her and there is clearly some blood mixed in with the snot from her nose(very faint), her runny nose is getting better though. anyone have any ideas? i am starting to worry about her now, she comes accross and sees me every time i go up and is eating well, all good things which i am clinging onto but i can't help but worry

Blood from the nose requires a scoping examination.

Nose bleeds at rest causes can be anything from an allergy type irritant, to a guttural pouch infection. Therefore can range from needing a respiratory supplement through to a life threatening condition.

Suggest phone your vet and tell them about the nose bleed so they know to bring a scope on Thursday if they think it is necessary.

Good luck for a speedy recovery

I'm surprised your pony isn't already on Pergolide/Prascend. Some of the many symptoms of Cushings are depression, lethargy, difficulty regulating the body temperature, loss of appetite, chest problems and infections that don't clear up. I'd get your poor pony on Prascend asap poor soul!

thank you, she has done really well until now on vitex but i think because the hormone levels are higher at this time of the year the herbs aren't strong enough. the vet was not particularly informative when she did the blood test - i did my research on the internet and if i knew then what i do now i would have put her straight on it, i was told it was expensive too which i am wary of, but i have found some websites that sell prascend considerably cheaper than the vet. hopefully she be feeling better soon
