Mare or gelding penky? Fingers crossed it's something straightforward but keep a careful eye on it coz there's a load of other nasties out there that can first show their ugly heads as blood in the urine x
Thanks BOF Gelding Tell me about it....remember the horse the H & H did a piece on last year with the nose bleed....that was my horse I lost back in Feb 08. Can only wait and see what the lab results show.
Worth repeating that it's hopefully "just" a urinary tract infection. My rescue mare Angel came to me in such a dreadful state with ragwort poisoning, mastitis, emaciation, you name it. And one of the sinister symptoms that was the hardest to resolve was blood in her urine. And I mean enough to make her urine red. There was absolutely nothing we could do about it as her liver was struggling to keep her body alive as it was and her blood clotting was grim, which was probably a lot of the problem. Thank god, with a superb team of the best in the land, we have got her back on an even keel and the blood in the urine just quietly disappeared.
Fingers crossed for your ned - do let us know how he does. How old is he penky? Is it only the urine or has he got other symptoms too? Has he had it before?
Penky, lots of experience of cystitis (in my horse, not me). My advice would be if theres a chance it is urinary infection get your vet to find out what it is - endoscope and biopsy from different places in the bladder. I'm sure your horse will be fine but there is always a cause of this whether it be stones or worst case a cancer, like my mare had. Good luck!
