Molly, my 9 year old GSD bitch has alot of blood in her urine this morning. Changed her to Barff diet a couple of months ago - could she be having too much protein ?

Any suggestions appreciated.

When our old bitch had blood in her urine it turned out to be caused by a bladder stone, which was removed in a relatively simple operation. Best to get your vet to check her out.

Thanks both. She has been having gyno problems for years, had scans, bloods, urine and biopsy. Vets dont know what the problem is. After reading a thread on HHO I changed her diet in case it was food intollerance. She has been great since. Im reluctant to take her to vets (only surgery for 12 miles) for them to give her Sinulox again. If no better by tomorrow I'll try another vets.

Yes AmyMay ... she had her first season at Christmas for 2 years - I have been waiting for this to happen so I can book her in for next month (3 months after season) to get her done. Think TGM might have a point there with the bladder stone. Will investigate

When my schnauzer done this the vet diagnosed her with a burst blood vessel. He said highly unlikely to be any kind of cancer in that area as she was spayed when she was younger. After a day or so it cleared up. He did give her an anti biotic for any infection though. (either that or to just get extra money of me

Apologies if i have misunderstood you here but if your bitch is not spayed then it is quite possible that the blood is due to a season. Some dogs do not have a good cycle for their season and it wouldn't surprise me if this isn't her having one - especially seen as she's had gyno probs? Just a thought

Thanks for the reply runaway. She was in season at Christmas hun. She's def not in season. The blood is in the urine. Vet going to drop me Synulox off in the morning to clear up infection before I take her in for an hysterical-rectum.
