well ive been out hunting a few times and feel confident about it, pony pretty much knows everything there is to know! but been asked to go out with bloodhounds tomoro, at first i said no as thought it would be wild!!! but after finding out it was still autumn hunting and that it's on my friends farm (she promised me there will be no 6ft hedges!!) and that there only going for 2-3 hours thought i may give it a go, it a lot cheaper than fox hunting so thought if i dont like it i can go home!
just wondering if there really is a lot of difference between the two? is it really that much faster? or will there likely to be people taking it a bit slower at the back? pony is very quick and fit but dont want to over do it if i can help it!
just keep hearing horror stories that it's so fast and jumps are massive!
thanks for any advice!!x

I have only ever been fox hunting although I am hoping to take my boy out with the blood hounds for the first time later on this season. From what I have been told, the pace is a lot faster drag hunting. They tend to run 'lines' because obviously they are following a runner on foot. Each line lasts about half an hour and this is nearly all in canter. They usually run about three lines in a day - that's the reason they need to be really fit! They run for a shorter amount of time than fox hunting, but that's because you are guaranteed to be doing a lot of work, whereas you can never tell what the day will be like when you go fox hunting and you often spend a lot of time standing around. Which bloodhounds are you thinking of going out with?

coakham bloodhounds, in east sussex, pony is very fit, i do lots of hunter trials and very often do galloping work around our fields, hopefully all will be ok and i suppose ill never know untill i try :) just hope its not out of his league, i just imagine lots of horse's going instead of a shrunk in the wash tb (he's only 14.2 but likes to think he's 16 hands!!) :)

Sounds like you will be fine then! Don't worry about his size... my boy is only 15 hh and when we go hunting we are nearly always up at the front behind the masters!
