Bloodroot Ointment, how successful is it?

We've used it on scabby type growths on a sheath. It seems to clear them up, but then they return - no better & no worse than before. We shared the tub with a friend whose horse had a group of small sarcoids & it did clear them up with no sign of return.
It's interesting stuff - our vet told us to treat the smaller of the growths first, & while we were doing that the larger one on the other side of the sheath started to reduce in size.
 
I used it on quite a large sarcoid a few years ago, it did come off, but grew back. The mare was very tetchy while it was being used, so I tried it on my own skin - it was very painful, felt like it was burning. I wouldn't use it again.
 
It is very painful for the horse. We had to give up with a mare on the yard as she would just kick at us and became extremely dangerous. A gelding at our yard was treated 3 months ago for a cluster of sarcoids (total size of of a plum). It was extremely painful for him and he has a gaping wound 3 months later which he has started to interfere with. Now with the weather we are worried about the flies getting in it. So personally I hate the stuff. If you are going to use it, then I would only recommend it on small or very flat sarcoids.
 
My vet has suggested i use it for my horses verucus sarcoid which is small and flat. I would be interested to know if it has worked before i buy it x
