just back from hospital with a course of antibiotics and anti-inflammitorys thanks to a nasty cleg bite! so itchy and painful, back is all blisters :(

fox has also been bitten but hes obviously not allergic like me haha :(

what are the best repellants for them? used jungle spray and flyspray, nothing seemed to deter the gits!

Nope we call them clegs in the north east too. They are really bad here too and I've been bitten more in the last week than I have my whole life!

Me too, so many bites already, no antibiotics yet this year, needed three lots last year. I think the more I get bitten the less the reaction has been and quicker to overcome. Not the best approach, but when u have horses not a lot you can do to avoid them, horrible things.

I got me 1st bite of the year today. Just above my knee. Huge swelling, aches and itches. The 1st one of the year always seems the worst.:(
However,I did manage a ride this morning. I rubbed all 17.2 of my warmblood with catnip and put sprigs on his bridle.(I have noticed that the cats get less ticks when they have been rolling in catnip,so I think it might have insect repellent properties.) Seemed to make the flies reluctant to land on the horse.:)
Worth a try if you have catnip growing in your garden.

What's a cleg? Hope the meds kick in soon and you feel better x

I too only found out what a clegg is on Sunday. And today I'm sporting two angry looking mountains were the little b******* have eaten me , not as bad as you Weesophz but **** I'm itching like a good un. Ice cubes work for a bit x
STOP SCRATCHING !!!!!

Only good thing is that I like the taste of piriton syrup :p, sympathies to those with bites, my first big 'un of the year has cleared up but am now coating me and pony in citronella to try to deter them.

I have never heard them referred to as clegs before, but I will now start using it! Great name :-) And yes, they're vile. I love creatures, but I draw the line at ticks and clegs!
