The girl who rides Monty for me was involved in an accident last night. Luckily no-one was hurt but Monty has done some SERIOUS damage to a parked car

Apparantly the car behind was following far too close and revving his engine. Monty spooked and spun round, backed up and kicked out, hitting a parked car. Monty has always been perfect on the road so something must have upset him.

I am really annoyed since:
a) I told my sharer to get insurance but she didn't (not that it matters since I'm insured)
b) She was riding with friends and they rode of!!!!

The poor man whos car it was had to track them down and finally caught up with them about a mile down the road

Luckily my OH is very good at calming situations down so the man is no going to call police etc about her leaving the scene......I don't think she had any intention of going back. The man was very reasonable, I'm just waiting for my insurance to open so we can get it sorted.

Poor Monty has a cut leg to boot. All very stressful

Any stories of insurance claims like this much appreciated.....I'm feeling very upset and worried about the whole thing.

Harry kicked a car a few years ago, lucky for us is didn't injure Harry and it was the drivers fault - attempted to overtake to close on a blind bend (solid white lines) and then darted back in, touching harry when a car came the other way. Women was awful about it but only herself to blame and the insurances sided with us

Hope Montys leg gets better soon.
Any witnesses? or info on revving car?

Aw hun. Hugs.

As Deefa asks, witnesses? Revving engine car reg? What about the people she was riding with? Have you read your insurance documents so you know how you stand when you speak to the insurance company?

Hope Monty's leg is okay.

If witnesses are available then try and get their viewpoint. The main thing the insurers will tell you/her is to not admit liability straight away.

These types of claims are generally fairly common so it should be pretty straightforward.

I checked through the insurance and the only thing I did was kinda admitted it was Monty's fault

But I haven't said that we are liable or anything so I hope that doesn't complicate things.

There were a couple of witnesses but most just saw Monty titting around down the road and then going berserk and kicking out.......he's such an arsehole!

I am going to speak to the girls about riding off since it gives us all a bad name and is not on! Also, I have a feeling that they had been galloping around being silly since Monty was DRIPPING in sweat and extremely wound up. He has cars hit him before and not kicked out....he is a saint on the road. He can be very sharp which is why I have told her not to go galloping around with the teenagers from the field.

It will be interesting to see what was going on before the incident. The insurance are going to send me a claim form and it seems it is all quite straight forward. I was only panicking since I am worried they won't pay out......but there's no reason why they wouldn't....that's why we have insurance

My horse got hit by a car and he claimed off our insurance for damage (it wasn't really his fault, long story, horses had got loose on the road as some stupid person left the gate open). We had to fill in a few forms but it was in the hands of the insurers and we had very little to do with it. Fortunately my in foal mare was ok though her rug was ripped.

My old pony got hit by a van years ago. We were walking down the road after a heavy shower and there was a big puddle. A bird decided to have a bath in it and then flew away just as we approached it causing my pony to shy sideways, stright into the side of the van. Luckily he had nothing more than a bit of hair loss from a friction burn, but there was £600 of damage to the van. I thought I would be liable as he moved into the path of the van, but when we sent off the details to the insurance comapnies, both mine and his decided that he was liable as he tried to overtake at an unsuitable place (the lane was quite narrow at this point). I think it would be worth tracking down this revving car driver if anybody took his reg number as I'm pretty sure all insurance compaines involved would hold him liable.

I'm not surprised that you're angry with his sharer for leaving, and having seen your other post, if she's done that and been galloping about on a horse his age when you've asked her not to, maybe you're better off without her? There are plenty of responsible, people out there who would love to share a horse.

Oh dear, that a nightmare!!

I hope Monty is fine and the insurance companies sort it all out but still, what a headache! Sounds like the sharer is a bit irresponsible, getting Monty wound up and then taking him on the road and leaving the scene of an accident - might be better to find someone else if possible!
