I braved the torrential weather this morning (another rant all together) . . .

Was having a nice ride on the roads this morning. Nice and calm over the motorway bridge and turned into the village. Had negotiated the S-bends and hit a straighter bit of road when I heard a vehicle come up behind me.

I looked behind to see a large articulated lorry about 6 feet away from Jazzy's back legs. He started revving his engine and getting closer still. As the visibility was poor, I trotted on towards a junction so that I could pull in. The lorry, instead of waiting patiently behind me, kept pace with me (STILL revving its engine), staying about 6 feet away from Jazz.

I kept looking back to try to keep the lorry behind me, but he started to overtake me. He was pretty close to Jazz, who luckily came back to a walk when I asked, but he was quite upset by the experience.

I did catch the reg plate of the lorry and went to the police - they said that if they see the lorry on the road they'll pull it over to have a word with the driver.

I had my hi-viz jacket on, so he can't claim he didn't see me!!!!

I'm am also a fair weather rider - and proud!!!

Did you notice the company that he drove for ? - if so make contact with them and put a complaint in - that's downright dangerous.

Although sticking up for some lorry drivers, my hubby drives a lorry and will pull over and turn engine off to let any horses pass etc, then again he knows better !.

I hate riding on the roads full stop! I find car and lorry drivers are the worst offenders but motorbikes seem to fair better.

I'm not going to rant about inconsiderate motorists as I could be here all day but glad that you are ok. It's such a shame that we have to endanger ourselves and our horses by going on the road when we have a perfect right to be on there.

Sounds very scary! Ditto what the others say about the company.

On the whole I find lorry drivers and local farmers to be very considerate, the worst are contract drivers during silaging - they are lethal!

No - didn't see the company logo, although I think that it was a personalised plate so it may be a company with the initials on the plate.

He was just SO impatient and agressive.

To be fair - most lorry drivers around us are brilliant. The viridor and quarry ones especially, but this one had absolutely no time for Jazz and me. I was trying to get out of his way quickly but he overtook in bad conditions when he couldn't see round the corner.

To cut a very long story short, I had to jump a hedge off two strides from a very narrow grass verge one day.
The mare saved both our lives but I did end up with a broken collar-bone as there was a large drop on the other side and we ended up in a total heap. The mare was fine thank God.
Always ride almost on the white line (if there is one) or close to what you would consider the outer edge of "your" side of the road.
Hold your ground and then any half-witted driver will then have to think very carefully about risking his vehicle if another came towards him.
Your local Plod should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves. As you gave them the Registration Number, go back to them and insist on being given the Company's details. You are legally entitled to this information.

I used to do this when I worked at a hacking centre - I insisted (for large rides) that I had a rear escort - both them and I would ride along the white line of the road.

Before doing this, cars would overtake some of the ponies, cutting the ride in half. It used to cause chaos. Riding down the middle of the road prevented the cars doing this, but also meant that the cars on the other side of the road could pass without issue.

Riding Jazz down the middle of the road today would have killed both of us - this bloke was not going to wait. I did ride Jazz down the middle of the road when I was going over one motorway bridge a couple of months ago - I was nearly pushed over the edge by a vicar in a black fiesta!!! He merrily passed me on the inside!

I would love to, but I didn't get the company name

I'll see if the police can give it to me, and if so, I'll write them a nice little letter

Will do!

The WPC (prob not what they're called these days :S) on the desk said that she was also a rider, so I'm hoping that something will be said to him.

I don't want him to get into trouble etc as both Jazzy and I are fine, but if he does it again to someone else, they might not be so lucky - so a little talking to might be what's needed!

I had an argument wiht a delivery van, left a "me" size dent in the side

Went straight to the company after getting my horse vet checked (nothing except a bad scare, I took the brunt) and showed them my bruises and insisted on talking to the branch manager. Also went to the police.

Driver was charged (man in car coming other way saw it all) and he was also sacked for gross misconduct because he had lied about the dent in the transit!

They're not all bad.

My Dad is a HGV driver, delivering flammable chemicals. He gets to go to Ireland, Belgium, Holland...and through Newmarket etc. He actually stops his vehicle, sits back and watches the string of racehorses hacking to the gallops at sunrise...and thinks it's amazing! He sent me a mobile photo, desperately trying to find it to post on here.....showing the same.

He also goes apeshit, when ppl drive past horses without due consideration (have seen it when sat next to him in the passenger seat)! It's embarassing, but also quite cute at the same time.

Guess he thinks of it as driving past his daughter without due care, spooking the horse, and causing injury which could cause problems for the said individual for the rest of their life - be it physical injury, or losing their horsey best friend.

He also has a word with me when he has been driving through the village in his Disco, in a traffic jam, only to see that the cause of it is me and my mates hacking up the road!!!
