Went into the shed to get Ellie's feed earlier and could smell the b*ggers. I dug about to get a fleece out for Ells and the first three rugs I picked up had holes in them. I am not a happy bunny

Then, to top it all, went to field, opened my box down there (one of those green kettler chest things) to find everything in it sopping wet. Ellies rain sheet was reeking, head collars, lead ropes, lunge lines all soaked through.

To say I am a bit peeved is an understatement! Stuff out of the box is in the washer, making a right noise, and tomorrow I am off to the diy store to get bins for the feed and something to put the rugs in that is mouse proof.

Ahhhh, thats better, rant over!!!!

. We also have massive rats at the yard going by the claw and teeth marks on the very sturdy feed bins

. Don't want to meet one of those bu&&ers on a dark night!

for the tackroom, get 1 of those plug-in rodent deterrent things, i've got them and they keep the mice away and don't bother the dogs. it stank of mice before (they nested behind the walls, nothing i can do about it) but now they keep well away...

I made some grusome mouse related discoveries last week. Queue phone call to feral cat rescue centre, and now we have 5 semi feral mousers! It's amazing, even the mousey smell has gone, brilliant.

We got 2 semi-feral kittens in the Spring to do something about the pigeons that were pooping everywhere, including rugs, tack, and onto the horses. By now, pigeons are a rare breed, and the rabbit, mouse, and shrew population has been decimated. We saw one of them eating a mouse earlier today. Our yard is an old cattle yard, a little tumble-down, and has little holes everywhere for them to get in and out.

...and, one of them has come around, and become really very friendly, constantly coming to be petted.

I'm a bit worried though, because the Spooky Pony is not appreciative of her rubbing up against his hind legs...one of these days he'll send her flying.

Get feral cats, we have three and I no long see, smell, or hear any rodents, plus the dogs keep them out too!!

I also bought a plug in for the tack room, and always store bits and bobs in one of those clear lidded boxes you get from DIY stores. You can stack them too, so they're really handy.

You can't trust tame rats either! I left my favourite hoody on the desk next to the cage where my pet rats lived, and the next morning they'd tugged it through the bars and gnawed it to bits to make a nest out of it. Flipping animals!
